The New England Patriots have won, won, and won some more under veteran quarterback Tom Brady. This year, they beat out the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to be crowned champions of Super Bowl LIII. That’s their 6th Super Bowl victory in their franchise history, all of which came under Head coach Bill Belichick and Tom Brady since their first one in 2002.

Since their first Super Bowl win, the Patriots have made it there nine times and have continued to be one of the most feared teams in the NFL, but that might be changing. Now, with the Patriots going into this season with a recently turned 42-year-old Tom Brady and all-star tight end Rob Gronkowski retiring at the end of last season, they will likely need to add some strength and talent to the offense.

The man who was signed in 2018 and might make the difference is the suspended Pro Bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon. Gordon made a name for himself after being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2012 and then having a solid freshman and sophomore season, with him being named first-team All-Pro and leading the NFL in receiving yards in just 14 games during the latter.

The issue with the 28-year-old for the Patriots is that late last season in December, he stepped away from football for mental health reasons, as he faced an indefinite ban for violating the terms of his reinstatement under the NFL drug policy.

This isn’t the first time Gordon is under pressure because of violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, he has been suspended multiple times and the 4th time he was suspended for 3 seasons until his reinstatement in 2017.

According to ESPN, League Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed his ban, stating that their primary focus for the moment is Gordon’s well-being before they can get into suspension talks and that he has been improving himself as so. The Patriots have since kept him around and are waiting to be able to reinstate him back into the team and add him to the aging quarterback’s arsenal of areal threats. So, it seems like there’s hope for all parties involved now and especially for the Patriots who are up against teams like the Los Angeles Charges, the Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts in the AFC.

Being that he hasn’t played that much in the past few seasons, playing in only 22 games since his extended suspension, and coming in at 6’3” and 225 pounds, he seems like a prime contender for a breakout season. That can only happen if he gets reinstated after all.
