McDonald’s Vice President mason Smoot recently told The Wall Street Journal recently that McDonald’s has finally started trialing “voice-activated drive-throughs and robotic deep-fryers” in hopes of making the fast food even faster stating, “the idea of technology is to help our crew—to make it easier and better for them.”

The Wall Street Journal reports that this will provide a safer environment to workers, as working with hot oil can be extremely dangerous. It will also be making things “easier” for crew members, but especially for customers. The robot was able to detect with no hesitation a complicated order of “a Hot’n Spicy McChicken sandwich without lettuce.” With no mistakes.

That is not to say McDonald’s will stop human assistance, as there are many customers who do not like the technology aspect of ordering, and tourists who may need the assistance due to language barrier.

The McRobot will have its trial starting in Chicago, and there’s talk that an expansion plan is already in the works, with cities nationwide yet to be determined.
