iTunes has been officially cut from the tree, as Apple announces iTunes will be replaced after 18 years by three apps in hopes to boost sales by charging customers monthly.

Since 2001, iTunes has been integral into launching the iPod and the iPhone. However, ever since 2011 it was no longer needed to activate the iPhone, which then serves as an explanation as to why the company is taking iTunes off completely.

Apple’s Craig Federighi made the announcement at the WWDC, informing users that the new upgraded MacOS will utilize Mac’s Finder to sync music instead of having to load iTunes, and the three apps will consist of Apple music, Apple Podcasts and Apple TV.

Cnet reports, “The company still sells millions of iPhones every quarter, but sales aren’t soaring like they used to. People are holding onto their devices for longer, which makes it important to give them services that get them paying monthly.”

New millennials seem to be getting on the bandwagon, as many are monthly clients of Apple music as it offers you unlimited songs, and many do not use iTunes anymore. The new changes can be expected to be made by Fall 2019 with the MacOS Catalina.
