It is often said that school is not for everyone. So, it can come as a surprise when you hear about a celebrity going to college, and some people’s reaction is of shock when they learn that celebrity is going to an ivy league school. Ciara has recently become part of the list of celebrities who attend ivy league college, and completed the Business of Entertainment, Media and Sports program.

She joins the list of celebs who have gone to ivy leagues schools, most of them graduated, most notably, Natalie Portman who attended Harvard, Meryl Streep attended Yale, Claire Danes also attended Yale, and Emma Watson attended Brown. Yet, some celebrities like James Franco, has gotten accepted in the PhD program at Yale, but it has not been confirmed if he ever finished.

Ciara was not alone in participating in hopes of completing the certificate, other notable celebrities included LL Cool J. The program studies different parts of the industry from: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the musical “Hamilton,” and “House of Cards” focusing on different challenges and success stories inside the entertainment business.

The initial reaction of learning about a celebrity going to college can be a shock, but for some people the shock forces them look at the specific celebrity differently, with respect, or admiration. One could argue that after the Harry Potter series, Emma Watson could have retired, instead, she earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature, moved to a dorm, and became avidly involved with politics. She recalls her first day at school, “I walked into the canteen and everyone went completely silent and turned to look at me,” she told The Sunday Times back March 2014. “I had to say to myself, ‘It’s okay, you can do this. You just have to take a deep breath and gather your courage.”

Much like Emma, and all the other celebrities who decided and some may argue had the courage to attend college, all shared something in common, a hope to succeed. Ciara captioned in her Instagram, “I always dreamt of going to college! But by God’s grace, my music career took me on a path that I’m so thankful for. This week I got accepted into Harvard! Words cannot describe my excitement!” Ciera’s reaction coincides with many non-famous college students who get into the school of their dreams, arguably making her a little more approachable to people who just thought of her as the “one, twostep” singer.

Ciara recently made another Instagram post, where she is seen proudly wearing a backpack and the famous letter “H” Harvard sweater, where she further explains her experience as a student at the Ivy League school, “My College Dream Has Come True and I’ll cherish this moment forever! What a surreal feeling walking to class every day, interacting with my classmates, diving into case studies, exploring the Harvard campus and Cambridge! Never stop dreaming,” She then exclaimed, “Never stop believing!” Her fan comments consisted of both positives and negatives, with some commenters stating, “I’m so proud of you!” while others commented, “Who has a full-on photoshoot at school?”

With that said, Ciara is not the first and most likely will not be the last celebrity who attempts a college degree, and while some may say that a person going to college is respectable no matter their occupation, others remain unphased as nowadays it is expected for a person to attend college.
