Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle have officially begun the next chapter in their life as they have finally moved into their new home in Frogmore Cottage near Windsor as the birth of their unborn child approaches. It marks the end of an era, one which they lived together with the rest of the royal family in Kensington Palace in London.

Kensington has been a royal residence since the 1600s and has housed generation after generation of the family, which makes the move of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex a little surprising.

But, the decision wasn’t out of the blue. They’ve lived in Kensington’s Nottingham Cottage since 2017 but felt that they would eventually need more space and privacy- especially if they were to begin a family- which they would only get from a change of scenery.

Kensington Palace housed six other royal couples (including Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three kids), while Prince Harry and Markle’s cottage had just two bedrooms, which led to them feeling claustrophobic, according to a family friend.

“I presume it must be nice to get out and away,” added the source. “Without neighbors who are all either family or staff [at Kensington Palace], they will now have their own thing.

“The move to Frogmore will give them much more time to be the family unit away from prying eyes,” royal correspondent Emily Nash explained. “As much as Kensington Palace is a wonderful place, they are part of a big community there.”

While there are tons of people who would be willing to live in their “cramped” Nottingham Cottage, privacy and space are much appreciated, and everyone deserves their share.

The move to Frogmore Cottage returns the young couple to the location of their engagement photos and wedding reception. Not only that, but it brings them closer to good friends George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney, who happen to be extremely close with the couple.

“Amal has been a wealth of knowledge on so many things and helped Meghan settle in,” the source said. “She’s given her advice on celebrity and living in the public eye. They’ve enjoyed sharing stories of travel and humanitarian causes. They often bounce ideas off of each other.”

“Meghan goes to Amal for many things and really trusts her instincts. Amal adores Meghan and is thrilled to see her become a mother. They will be living very close to one another and hope to see each other often. They have an understanding and common ground that has really helped Meghan and provided her with support.”
