Lori Loughlin has been dropped by Hallmark, continuing her career’s tailspin from fan favorite to publicly shamed after being arrested by the FBI as part of a nationwide college bribery scandal. She was one of 50 people charged for paying money to either doctor their children’s SAT scores or to forge documents of athletic recruitment to get them into universities of their choosing.
Reports say that up to $25 million was spent among the 50 people and that she and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, allegedly paid the University of Southern California $500,000 of that to get both their daughters into the university as recruits for the crew team, although neither ever participated in the sport.
Her younger daughter Olivia Jade Giannulli is still enrolled at USC but has faced backlash on social media following the unraveling of events and her relationships with beauty product brands Sephora, TRESemme, and Estee Lauder ultimately ended.
“After careful review of recent developments, we have made the decision to end the Sephora Collection partnership with Olivia Jade, effective immediately,” the company said in a statement to NBC News. And Hallmark followed.
Loughlin is best known for her role as Aunt Becky from the hit show Full House which aired from 1988-1995. She then reprised the role in 2016 when Netflix decided to produce Fuller House, which acts as a sequel series.
And on the side, the 54-year-old had become the marquee star for the Hallmark Channel since 2013, where she has starred in the drama When Calls the Heart since 2014 and appeared in numerous other movies and shows.
And despite the weight her name carries, Hallmark cut ties with her, removing her from the sixth season of When Calls the Heart, putting writers in the unenviable decision of having to write her off midseason. And Netflix does not plan on having Aunt Becky appear when Fuller House returns this fall for its final season, which would be the show’s fifth.
For what it’s worth, her Fuller House co-stars Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, and Andrea Barber all stood by her during their speech as Nickelodeon’s Kid Choice Awards, which didn’t sit well with many of their fans. You can read more about this story on Page Six.
