Ariana Grande’s recent partnership with Starbucks has been criticized after people found out that the Cloud Macchiato, which she had promoted and consumed, is not vegan. Apparently, Grande has been an admitted vegan since 2013.

The Iced Cloud Macchiato comes in either caramel or cinnamon flavor with a vanilla-flavored foam made from egg white powder. According to the coffee giant, these delights are “so light and fluffy they’re basically a cloud in a cup.”

“We’ve long been fans of Ariana Grande’s (and we’re both fans of Clouds), so we’re excited to work with her to celebrate the debut of Cloud Macchiato,” Starbucks said in a statement, according to USA Today. Some went out to enjoy the drink, while others took to Twitter to call out the irony behind the move. The drink contains egg whites and dairy, which is a strict “no” for vegans.

Back in 2014, Grande was quoted as saying, “I love animals more than I love most people, not kidding. But I am a firm believer in eating a full plant-based, whole food diet that can expand your life length and make you an all-round happier person.”

Many customers went into Starbucks expecting a vegan drink but left disappointed. Some stores’ baristas took to social media to express how odd it was that Ariana Grande is the face of a drink that goes against her dietary limitations. One Twitter user defended the singer, however, tweeting, “Why are people getting mad at Ariana for having her name behind a not vegan Starbucks drink…..she hasn’t said she’s vegan in years she might not even be anymore lol. Also who cares she can’t control the world.”

But some even took issue with the singer partnering up with such a large company so close to International Women’s Day, labeling it a form of “branded female empowerment.”

“You cannot write better parody of woke capitalism than the actual thing,” one Twitter user wrote, adding, “Happy International Women’s Day from Ariana Grande and Starbucks. You’re doing feminism with the coffee.” Read more about the story on Glamour.
