So, the vaccination disagreement continues. Is it safe or unsafe to have your child vaccinated?

Well, just recently, a teenager in Ohio defied his mother by getting vaccinated, according to CBS News.

Ethan Lindenberger, 18, testified before the Senate Committee on Health, Education Labor, and Pensions regarding his decision.

“I grew up understanding my mother’s beliefs that vaccines were dangerous. She would speak openly about these views. Both online and in person she would voice her concerns and these beliefs were met with strong criticism,” Linenberger said at the hearing. “Over the course of my life, seeds of doubts were planted and questions arose because of the backlash my mother would receive.”

When he tried to explain his reasonings and research behind vaccinations, his mother, Jill Wheeler, once said, “That’s what they want you to think.”

Of all places to turn, Lindenberger decided to go to the online site Reddit for assistance to find out where he could get vaccinated. He wrote on Reddit, “My parents are kind of stupid,” and, “God knows how I’m still alive,” according to CBS News.

Lindenberger ended up receiving vaccines for influenza, hepatitis, tetanus, and HPV back in December.

What does this mean for the relationship between mother and son? CBS News says that Lindenberger “understands that his mother held her views purely out of love and that he disagreed with her with love and respect.”

“It was just straight up fear of him getting these immunizations and having a bad reaction … I think a lot of people look at this as a straight, black and white answer, and I don’t feel like it is,” the Ohio mother told CBS.

According to CBS News, Wheeler is proud of her son for standing up for his beliefs.

A happy ending to a major disagreement.
