It looks like the New York City Mayor may have a golden plan up his sleeve.

According to Travel + Leisure, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio wants New York City residents to receive a guaranteed two weeks of paid time off.

No, New Yorkers, I am not going to pinch you because you’re not dreaming.

Travel + Leisure reports that more than fifty percent Americans in 2018 claimed they had not taken time off in over a year. De Blasio’s proposal is something that has never been done before in any U.S. city, and according to the Washington Post, if approved by City Council, an additional 500,000 workers will receive paid time off.

Now, a word from the mayor himself: “More than 500,000 hard-working men and women should earn paid personal time when they contribute to the success of their companies,” said de Blasio. “Our city’s businesses will benefit from a more productive, healthier workforce. By putting workers first, New York City’s economy has never been stronger.”

Since not all of us receive a sweet two weeks of paid time off, Mental Health America provides us with some ways we can tune out work life while trying to relax at home. First, try to “unplug”; technology can burn you out if you use it constantly. Second, make sure that you and your partner or family members divide household responsibilities evenly – it is all about supporting each other. Third, try not to cram your calendar with endless events and outings. Learn to say “no,” and remember that you are not superman or superwomen. Fourth, make sure you spend quality time with your friends and family; apparently, it is an immune booster!
