According to PEOPLE, Jillian Michaels thinks the keto diet is a “bad plan,” saying that the diet “deprives the body of essential nutrients.” That sounds like the opposite of healthy.

Michaels doesn’t leave us hanging, she’s got some recommendations for us.

She says to stick to keeping it simple (already like it) and to steer clear of processed foods.

“You don’t want to eat processed foods — that’s obvious. Foods with a ton of chemicals; that goes without saying,” she told PEOPLE Now in December, also saying “Use common sense with your food choices. No chemicals; nothing overly processed.”

That seems easy enough…until it’s rush hour traffic after work and the next exit’s showing your fav fast food joint.

Michaels says, “Things like fake fat, fake sugar, processed grains, processed sugars; essentially wreak havoc on your on your body chemistry. She continues saying, “So beyond obesity, you’re looking at your skin, your hair your nails, your liver, your heart, your kidney your brain; kind of everything.”

What’s this — Michaels gives us the green light on eating chocolate. Phew.

She told PEOPLE Now, “Chocolate — dark chocolate — is actually great for you because it has antioxidants and polyphenols that help to fight the free radicals in your body that cause aging.” Who knew?

There’s also a bit more fun that can be sprinkled into our day-to-day eating habits: As a part of her Ripped in 30 meal plan she tells us that we can get away with enjoying an apple berry banana smoothie or even a mozzarella stick and pear as a snack. Don’t worry, we’re not going to starve, she even provides meal options for dinner that are on the heartier side and high in protein, such as eating a BBQ chicken and black bean burrito or roasted salmon.

In all the diet hype, intermittent fasting surfaced and Michaels says that the reason the tactic became so popular is due to its anti-aging benefits. She warns that fasting is not to get confused with starving one’s self. Fasting is not the same as “not getting enough food.” She breaks down a fun little fact for us: “So we’ve already had this built in intrinsically for thousands of years, it’s called breaking the fast, otherwise known as breakfast,” explains Michaels, going on saying “It’s a period between your last meal of the day and then the next meal tomorrow. A 12 to 16-hour fast overnight, and common sense. Don’t overeat.”
