Selena Quintanilla will forever be remembered as the “Queen of Tejano music.” Her legacy and tragic death touched the lives of many.

Netflix has something very special in store for fans and admirers: the retelling of Selena Quintanilla’s life story in “Selena: The Series,” which will be a scripted TV show. The Quintanilla family will help develop and produce the series, according to a source.

“Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives,” Suzette Quintanilla, Selena’s sister, said in a statement. “We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come.”

Netflix released a simple teaser trailer featuring “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,” one of Selena’s biggest singles. A casting or premiere date hasn’t been announced so far. According to E! News, Jaime Dávila, Rico Martinez, Suzette Quintanilla, Abraham Quintanilla Jr. and Simran A. Singh serve as executive producers. Moisés Zamora of “Star” and “American Crime” is a writer and executive producer.

Netflix’s official description of the series reads, “A coming of age story following Selena as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music.” It is a two-part limited series.

Jaime Dávila, president of Campanario Entertainment, said in a statement:

“Selena and the entire Quintanilla family are an inspiration to many and especially to me, a millennial of the same heritage. Selena’s career achievements are legendary, but our scripted series will focus on the incredible story of a Mexican-American family and how an extraordinary young woman transcended categories and borders to become a global star. I can’t imagine a better partner than Netflix to celebrate Selena and her family’s lives.”

Per E! News, this isn’t the first time the story of Selena’s life and death at the hands of her manager, Yolanda Saldívar, has been told. The 1997 film “Selena,” in which Jennifer Lopez plays Selena, released two years after the singer’s death.

“Entre a Mi Mundo” is considered her breakthrough album. “Selena Live!” won Best Mexican/American Album at the 1994 Grammys.

Saldívar was fired from the team because of shady dealings, which included embezzlement, in 1995. The ex-manager refused to turn over financial papers and during a confrontation, shot Selena.

In 2017, Selena received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Finally, a Netflix series about the Queen of Tejano music. Are you excited for the show? Read more about the story on E! News here.
