The United Kingdom is amidst its biggest political crisis in decades.

Many people in the UK are outraged with British Prime Minister Theresa May, stemming from the “deeply unpopular” Brexit withdrawal agreement. Some members of Parliament in May’s own Conservative Party want her gone, and they showed this with their ballots in a no-confidence vote over her leadership.

Some of these Conservative Party members “urged” May to press the European Union to reopen negotiations about the Brexit deal, but the EU would not get on board.

Brexit refers to the “hypothetical departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union.”

Critics say the failure of Brexit falls in May’s hands.

“For the sake of the Conservative Party and indeed for our country’s destiny, I honestly believe that [it] is now time to seek fresh leadership that can carry this country forward outside of the European Union and confidently into the world,” Mark Francios, a Conservative Party member who cast a no-confidence vote said.

Despite the uproar, May claims she had obtained the best European Union deal there is, and a new leader will not change that.

“A leadership election would not change the fundamentals of the negotiation or the parliamentary arithmetic,” May explained. “Weeks spent tearing ourselves apart will only create more division just as we should be standing together to serve our country. None of that would be in national interest.”

The British prime minister ended up surviving the vote after all, and will now not face any challenges to her title for a year, at least.

“We now need to get on with the job of delivering Brexit to the British people and building a better future for this country,” May told reporters after she survived the vote. “A Brexit that delivers on the votes that people gave; that brings back control of our money, our borders and our laws; that protects jobs, security and the union; that brings the country back together rather than entrenching division – that must start here in Westminster with politicians on all sides coming together and acting in the national interest.”
