Le’Veon Bell, All-Pro running back, missed a major deadline on Nov. 13. Kevin Colbert, Steelers general manager, said in a statement that Bell did not report to the Pittsburg Steelers headquarters to sign his Franchise Tender, which means that he will not be playing football during the 2018 season.

Negotiations regarding Bell as a free agent became rocky, throwing a wrench in the works. According to ESPN, Bell missed 2017 training camp, eventually playing on a $12.12 million tag. He also missed games this year after turning down a five-year, $70 million offer from the Steelers. According to guard Ramon Foster and center Maurkice Pouncey, Bell not showing up for Week 1 highlighted his selfishness.

Apparently, this offseason, Bell will seek a long-term contract in 2019 that will pay him $17 million a season, ESPN reports. The Steelers will consider using a $14.5 million transition tag in the offseason, which means that they will be able to match any outside offer for Bell or let him walk in free agency. Meanwhile, according to ESPN, James Conner, third in the NFL rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, will be replacing Bell. Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster said that Conner wants to prove his potential to Steeler fans and the nation.

When asked what happens if Bell decides to never return to the Steelers, coach Mike Tomlin said to ESPN, “So be it.” Read more on ESPN here.
