Get ready. More original series are coming soon for Disney! According to The Verge, Disney CEO Bob Iger wants to expand internationally and increase Hulu’s original content offerings.
The plan is to expand Hulu to international markets to keep up with Netflix, which has seen significant growth internationally. And, Disney could see a much larger stake in Hulu with the company’s acquisition of Fox last December in a landmark deal of over $52 billion, as stated by The Verge. In the deal, Disney will also gain majority control of Hulu; however, the acquisition of Fox is expected to be only completed in 2019.
Iger said, “After the deal closes and after we have the 60 percent ownership, we’ll meet with the Hulu management team and the board, and discuss what the opportunities are in terms of both global growth and investing more in content.”
With Netflix expanding their content with what seems like a new series every day, it will be interesting to see how Hulu and Disney will match up. Read more on The Verge here.
