On Friday, Team Trump revealed that the administration is not as close to cutting a deal with China as previously thought, according to a source. However, reports did say that President Trump had asked officials to arrange a draft of a trade agreement with China, which prompted the Dow to rise earlier that same day.

CNBC then went on to cite a trio of administration officials, reporting that the deal was not that close and the markets fluctuated – at 11:45 a.m. it dropped to 140 points.

Some investors emphasized the need for caution, noting that the positive trade news originating from some quarters of the White House could have more to do with the midterm elections than reality. “I think it’s maybe temporary,” Richard Bernstein, the CEO of Richard Bernstein advisers, expressed to CNBC on Friday. “We will see what happens Wednesday,” he added.

It’s not clear what will come of it all; however, practicing caution, according to investors, is always a good idea.
