Moving has never been easy. The stress of packing, cleaning and lugging all your belongings isn’t anyone’s idea of a good time. Even friends dread being asked to help. Perhaps that is why the story of 250 volunteers forming a human chain to help move books to a new location is so heartwarming.

According to CNN, October Books is a “not-for-profit radical bookstore” in Southampton, a port city on England’s south coast. This local store has a 40-year history in the town, but after a rent increase in July, October Books was forced to relocate 150 meters down Portswood Road. Luckily, with a fundraising campaign and the help of local donors, the new location (a former Nat West Bank) was purchased for almost half a million pounds.

However, 20,000 books and the store’s furniture still needed to be moved. So, reaching out to their community, October Books’ volunteers asked for help moving books to the new store location. They had no idea what would happen next.

On Sunday, Oct. 28, 250 volunteers lined up side-by-side to pass the books down to the new location. Within a few hours, the human chain passed by hand a total of 2,000 books!

The community has gone above and beyond to keep their favorite bookstore around. Would you do the same for a store that you love? Read the full story from CNN here!
