Picture this: it’s Thanksgiving Day, and everyone is counting on you to cook the perfect turkey. You’re elbows deep in the turkey when the pressure gets to you, you have no idea what to do next. Your hands are covered in giblets and there’s no one in sight…

This year, you don’t have to worry about this happening because all you have to say is, “Alexa, ask Butterball…” and all your turkey questions will be answered (that is, if you have an Amazon Alexa-enabled device near you).

Since 1981, the people at Butterball have operated their own Turkey Talk-Line, a “direct link to experts who can answer all your pressing poultry questions.” This year, Butterball is making the process easier by allowing Amazon Alexa to assist with the task. The downfall to using Alexa is that you won’t be talking to an actual person, but Butterball’s experts prerecorded responses to many common turkey issues that will be played back for users like you.

“Every year it’s evolved a little bit to help people as the times change. This will be my sixth year with the Turkey Talk-Line and I’m one of three voices on the Butterball skill,” Butterball expert Beth Somers explained to Food & Wine. “The app is filled with our most frequently asked questions and those are based on 37 years of call data. Some of those questions include thawing, how to prep your turkey for roasting, how much turkey you’re going to need to buy, things like that. It’s pretty comprehensive, especially for a first-time cook.”

Alexa can also help you with cook times, pounds-per-person math and a step-by-step guide on what exactly to do. Not only can Alexa guide you through the process, but the device can also give you a pep talk and add some suggestions on what you should be thankful for this year.

Ask a question that Alexa can’t answer? No worries, the device will give you the contact information for the Turkey Talk-Line, so you can speak to a real-live human.

The phone line for the Turkey Talk-Line is 1-800-BUTTERBALL and you can call any time between November 1 and December 24. Good luck and happy cooking!
