Taylor Swift recently took to Instagram, urging her followers to vote. And it seems since then, she has been posting a series of Instagram stories, highlighting her fans who have voted by reposting their voting #selfies.

This isn’t Swift’s first political message. In the beginning of October, the singer posted a lengthy Instagram statement, highlighting the necessity to vote in the midterm elections.

“I’m writing this post about the upcoming midterm elections on November 6th, in which I’ll be voting in the state of Tennessee,” she wrote. “In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now.”

Swift urged her followers to educate themselves on the candidates running and to vote, no matter what.

“Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway,” Swift wrote. “So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed people have turned 18 in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count.”

The star followed up her political message at the AMAs, as she accepted her award with voting in mind. “I wanted to make a mention of the fact that this award and every single award given out tonight were voted on by the people. And you know what else is voted on by the people is the midterm elections on November 6. Get out and vote. I love you guys.”

Many of the photos Swift reposted highlighted first-time voters. On one repost, Swift wrote, “I love reading your stories on why voting matters to you. I’m so grateful I get to hear them.”

Many people are supporting the way Swift is using her platform. One supporter is someone Swift previously had a feud with, Katy Perry. Perry told Variety that “she’s setting a great example.”

Some are against her political stance, though. One Twitter user wrote “@taylorswift13 the one reason I liked Taylor Swift as an artist was because I believed that she did not need to voice her political opinions. I am very disappointed as a black man whose daughter idolizes you. Why does everyone feel a need to voice their political opinion?”

Love it or hate it, her statement made an impact. In the 24 hours following her Instagram message, according to Vote.org, there was a 65,000 spike in voter registration.
