Middle-income folks, this one’s for you!

Leaving for a campaign trip to Texas, President Trump spoke to reporters at the White House revealing that his administration plan on requesting a 10 percent tax cut for middle-income people, according to Reuters.

“We’re putting in a resolution sometime in the next week or week-and-a-half, two weeks,” Trump stated. “We’re giving a middle-income tax reduction of about 10 percent. We’re doing it now for middle-income people.”

The president recently announced that his administration was reviewing a tax cut to emerge around the beginning of November, close to the approaching congressional elections, despite lawmakers being out of town campaigning and Congress not in session.

It’s no surprise that in the elections, Trump’s fellow Republicans are looking to keep a hold on their majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives.

Trump later made it clear that the projected tax cuts would be revealed before the election but would still have to go through Congress afterward. “We won’t have time to do the vote” before the election, Trump explained. “We’ll do the vote after the election.”

President Trump stressed that the latest tax cut plan was specifically meant for middle-income earners, not businesses. He noted that, it would be “on top of the tax decrease that we’ve already given them.”

The president initially raised the tax cut proposal during the week the U.S. government ended the 2018 fiscal year with a $779 billion deficit, just as previous Republican-led tax cuts squeezed revenues. Moreover, the deficit figure was the highest in six years.

Just last December, Trump signed into law a major tax overhaul since the 1980s, which lowered the corporate rate from 35 percent to 21 and momentarily reduced the tax burden for most individuals. Read more about this story on Reuters here.
