How could Amazon have done that?

Well, eBay says that Amazon representatives went undercover on their site and contacted the third-party sellers via the online chat then told said sellers to call them to “evade detection,” according to the New York Post.

eBay declares this an “orchestrated, coordinated, worldwide campaign” in order to “illegally lure eBay sellers to sell on Amazon.”

Before filing the lawsuit, a cease and desist letter was sent to Amazon under the same claims of poaching. Amazon said it was “conducting a thorough investigation of these allegations.”

eBay is also demanding “unspecified damages as monetary relief for the lost sales” and for Amazon employees to be banned from misusing their messaging feature.

Amazon currently has no further comment on the matter.
