A small group of immigrants from the Honduran migrant caravan recently crossed into southern Mexico, a border President Trump did not want them to cross, to prevent them from arriving at the US southern border.

According to NBC News, the small group broke away from others, but they are soon to be followed by a group of 2,000-3,000 migrants who congregated in Tecun Uman, 25 miles south of Tapachula, Mexico. These migrants gathered in the town’s central park, trying to decide how to enter Mexico.

“If migration and the federal police do not allow us access, we will do the impossible to cross into Mexico,” one of the migrants shouted to the rest.

Trump tweeted, pressuring Mexico to “stop this onslaught” saying “if unable to do so I will call up the U.S. Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!”

Trump went on to say several of the migrants are criminals. “A fairly big percentage of those people are criminals, and it’s not happening under my watch.”

According to NBC News, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said his government will urge the U.S. and Canada to participate in a joint investment of about $30 billion for the development of projects and jobs to stop migration in the region.

“We don’t want temporary solutions because if the problem isn’t addressed at the root people are always going to look for a way to improve their lives,” Obrador said. “The people don’t leave their villages for pleasure. They do it out of necessity.”

Trump is willing to go to drastic measures to keep the migrants out of the U.S.

Senior administration officials say Trump is considering sealing the border but would wait until after the Nov. 6 midterm elections. The first wave of the caravan is likely to reach the U.S. border around this time.
