Traveling can be exhausting, stressful and cause anxiety for some. Many people have a fear of flying, which can trigger all of these emotions. Virgin, the innovative airline that continues working on creating a better flying experience, is here to help. Virgin Australia has announced a new initiative to assist nervous flyers throughout their journey, according to Travel + Leisure.

The airline is partnering with the nonprofit organization “Smiling Mind,” to offer both web and app-based meditation programs created by a range of psychologists and educators, who are focused on mindfulness.

The airline will be incorporating Smiling Mind’s guided meditations into its in-fight entertainment system, that will allow passengers to use the tools provided to calm their anxiety throughout their trip. In addition, they will also feature a new system to allow passengers with fear of flying the opportunity to connect with airline staff, before they embark on their journey in the skies. The crew will be able to assist its passengers with personalized tips and communication and offer one-on-one interactions throughout their flight if needed.

“Integrating mindfulness into our everyday lives is just as important as eating and exercising regularly, and I am so excited to see Virgin Australia deeply embedding mindfulness into the workplace and onboard flights,” Sir Richard Branson said in a statement.

The airline will also be implementing the new Smiling Mind program for its staff outside of flight, the article states.

The airline has not released further details on what the in-flight programs, pre-journey and on-board assistance will look like, but did state that they will announce further details in the upcoming months.

Other airlines have also joined in on incorporating innovative ways to help put passengers at ease during flights, including American Airlines, Calm Air, and Qantas Airline. American Airlines has introduced nature videos, Calm Air has a mediation app, and Qantas Airline has an in-flight meditation video series. Only time will tell if more airlines will jump on board to make flights more relaxing to everyone with new options. Whether we need it or not, sounds like a nice airline addition.
