Hillary Clinton is speaking out on one of the most infamous affairs of all time, involving her husband, former President Bill Clinton, and former White House intern, Monica Lewinsky.  During his presidency, Clinton and Lewinsky had multiple sexual encounters, which he later lied about under oath.

Hillary Clinton, a champion of the #MeToo Movement, has spoken out in a recent live interview with CBS, where she defended her husband, according to the Huffington Post. Correspondent Tony Dokoupil asked whether Bill Clinton should have stepped down, the former first lady said,” absolutely not.”

Dokoupil went on to ask, “it wasn’t an abuse of power?” To which the former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic nominee said, “No. No.”

In the past year, the rise of the #MeToo movement, has evolved into a number of political, business and entertainment figures being accused of sexual harassment and assault. It has given light to old cases, with a new perspective, including the Lewinsky and Clinton affair. Lewinsky herself has emerged in the age of the #MeToo era, reconsidering her views and stating that Clinton may have abused his power.

In an exclusive essay for Vanity Fair back in 2014, years later after the scandal broke, Lewinsky opened up for the first time and admitted that her boss did take advantage of her, but it was consensual. “I will always remain firm on this point: It was a consensual relationship. Any ‘abuse’ came in the aftermath, when I was made a scapegoat in order to protect his powerful position,” Lewinsky said back in 2014.

In an updated penned essay to Vanity Fair from March of 2018, Lewinsky said she has come to the conclusion that her change in perspective to her affair with Bill Clinton, is credited to the MeToo movement.

During the CBS interview, Dokoupil went on to say, “There are people who look at the incidents of the 90s and they say, ‘A president of the United States cannot have a consensual relationship with an intern; the power imbalance is too great.'”

“Who was an adult,” Hillary Clinton responded, before steering the conversation to the more recent numerous sexual misconduct allegations of President Trump.

“Let me ask you this, where’s the investigation of the current incumbent against whom numerous allegations have been made and which he dismisses, denies and ridicules?” Clinton asked. “So, there was an investigation and it, as I believe, came out in the right place.”

Bill Clinton himself was accused of sexual assault with several women, besides Lewinsky, including Juanita Broadderick, who has alleged that he raped her in hotel room in 1978, when he was Arkansas attorney general.

Hillary Clinton went on to say she has no regrets about standing by her husband. “I did what I thought was right and I feel very good about it,” she said in the interview.

The founder of the #MeToo movement, Tarana Burke has slammed Clinton, and stated that it “is just tragic and its wrong,” to deny that former President Bill Clinton abused his power. Burke added that they both may have made a choice, but “one of those people was the most powerful man in the world.”

It should be no surprise that Hillary Clinton is defending and sided with her husband, given that she has since day one. Read the full story on the Huffington Post here.
