Brett Kavanaugh has been sworn in as the United States Supreme Court Justice, amid the allegations of sexual assault that initially put his nomination on hold. It was a victory for the Republican Party and the Trump administration, as Kavanaugh will replace retired Justice Anthony Kennedy. The ceremony was kept private due to the crowd of noisy protestors that gathered.

President Trump, who nominated Kavanaugh, continues to show his full support for the new Supreme Court Justice. Trump insisted that Kavanaugh “did nothing wrong,” and called the sexual assault allegations “a hoax,” according to the Huffington Post.

Trump also responded to reports that if Democrats gain a House majority during the upcoming midterm elections, they might pursue impeachment proceedings against Kavanaugh, to which Trump finds absurd.

“I’ve been hearing that now (Democrat) are talking about impeaching a brilliant jurist, a man that did nothing wrong, a man that was caught up in a hoax set up by the Democrats using the Democrats’ lawyers, and now they want to impeach him,” Trump told reporters.

The Senate narrowly confirmed Kavanaugh to the high courts, after all but one Republican backed him up, and all but one Democrat opposed Kavanaugh. A brief and limited FBI investigation into the sexual allegations made by Christine Blasey Ford, found no evidence. Trump, who has publicly mocked Ford, continued to do so even though Kavanaugh has now been confirmed, and continued to criticize her credibility.

Trump also blamed the Democratic party and accused them of orchestrating the sexual allegations accusations, pushing the narrative that the allegation will ultimately hurt the Democrats. Kavanaugh continues to deny the allegations made by Ford, from an encounter that happened 35 years ago, to which Ford said she thought he was going to kill her.

Kavanaugh has also accused the Democrats of “search and destroy” during his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee. He says the “smear campaign” was a tactic to prevent him from being sworn in.

His nomination has been controversial since Trump announced Kavanaugh as the nomination to replace Kennedy. The allegations also come during the era of the #MeToo movement, making the case the first to reach the highest court. With midterm elections so close, we can only wait and see who wins house majority and what comes next. Read the full story from the Huffington Post here.
