“When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.”

Calling all ‘Game of Thrones’ fans! You don’t have to play anything, just travel to Northern Ireland next year and you’ll be a winner.

According to Page Six, HBO has announced plans to adapt several ‘Game of Thrones’ filming locations in Northern Ireland into tourist attractions, as the popular series nears the end of its run. Westeros fans will soon be able to step into the actual locations of where it all started.

Winterfell, Castle Black and Kings Landing alongside a formal studio tour of Linen Mill Studios are being considered as the standing sets for the attractions, showcasing material from the series spanning all seasons and settings.

Next year might be when the ‘Game of Thrones’ Legacy attractions will open after an exploratory process is completed, according to HBO. The sites will feature exhibits of, “’GoT’ costumes, props, weapons, set decorations, art files, models and other production materials.” Moreover, there are plans to install exciting digital content and interactive materials to showcase VFX used in the series.

Jeff Peters, HBO’s VP of licensing and retail, reveals that, “HBO is thrilled to celebrate the work of the ‘Game of Thrones’ creative team and crew by preserving these locations and inviting fans to visit Northern Ireland and explore Westeros in person.” He also sees these tourist attraction sites as an “opportunity to celebrate Northern Ireland’s pivotal role in the life and legacy of the show and share its culture, beauty and warmth is also a huge inspiration behind these Legacy projects.”

HBO is working alongside the country’s travel marketing authority, Tourism NI. On a global tourism level, according to the CEO of Tourism NI, this legacy project is a “game-changer for Northern Ireland.” It’s a very different experience from outside of the breathtaking landscapes, coastlines and mountains we see on TV and online. And fans will have the opportunity to take it all in, in real life.

The ‘Game of Thrones’ locations will become tourist attractions in HBO’s new project. Are you going to buy tickets to Ireland when it officially opens? Read more about the story on Page Six here.
