Christina Aguilera has reinvented herself again. Her eighth full-length album “Liberation” just dropped and fans are already calling it a masterpiece. Her album cover is black and white, and shows her appearing bare-faced and liberated, showing the world her imperfections.
“I still love getting glammed up, but I want to show imperfections on this go-round. It’s scary, but I’m up for the challenge,” she says in Cosmopolitan’s October issue.
Imperfections and natural beauty have become quite the trend lately, among celebrities and entertainers alike. Aguilera has previously “stripped” down before, when she released her sophomore album, but this time, she says it is slated to be different. In honor of her new album, she dishes to Cosmopolitan about her previous “Dirty” era, which she felt her provocative look overshadowed her image and music. She claims it led to many unfair comments and labels.
“It’s hard to hear yourself being called names. I remember being hurt by these commercials on MTV, pitting [Britney Spears] as the good girl and me as the bad girl. It’s like, if I’m going to be demure and innocent, that’s OK,” Aguilera says. “But if I’m going to just be myself, I’m trouble, “she said in the interview.
Though, she clarifies she has no regrets of the decisions she has made. “I love the female body, and I think it’s something to be proud of, not something that men should dictate ownership of. ‘Dirrty’ was extremely controversial at the time, but it would be nothing now,” she says. “I hope I paved the way and helped set the ground rules that women can be any version of themselves they wanna be…and proud of it.”
For those who are interested to know if she has a type when it comes to dating – she does. If you are in the industry, be warned, because Aguilera doesn’t date other celebs. She said she has “had opportunities” to date other people in the industry, but says that isn’t her style.
She jokes, “There’s gotta be something wrong with you if you want to be in this business. I mean, hi! I definitely have my issues. I think that I can only handle one [star] in the relationship, and I need to be it.”
Aguilera has never used men to get ahead, including dating men for publicity, or publicizing a relationship intentionally. Would you date a celebrity if you had the chance? Read the full story on E! News here.
