When marrying into royalty, tread with care. In Meghan Markle’s case, the longstanding adage gains a deeper meaning. Style-watchers and royal-watchers alike have been scrutinizing the new Duchess of Sussex like no other. Some began to notice that Markle has an affinity for wearing roomy heels. In fact, roomy might be an understatement.
Bloggers, fans, and podiatrists put their heads together, gave a collective scratch, and speculated that Markle may be wearing overlarge shoes to avoid blisters and swelling. Public figures are known to have rigorous schedules packed with lots of standing around and smiling. The schedule of a royal is even more exacting, due to the plethora of other rules like waving majestically and smiling in a queenly manner. They are often called upon to appear at a function for hours, without permission to sit (so we hear). Perhaps Markle is simply trying to circumvent uncomfortable foot situations with some preventative measures.
Unfortunately for Markle, experts say that wearing oversized shoes can do more harm than good. Too much space is likely to cause more friction, thereby increasing the risk for blisters and sores. And let’s not forget the increased risk of a twisted ankle.
What do you think? Have you ever tried wearing heels sized one to two figures up? “Yes, clever!” exclaim 35% of you. The 65% majority say, “no, not safe.” The podiatrists salute you! Read more about this story on Today here.
