The Detroit Pistons are looking to get back in the game after a tough two seasons. And this time, they are determined to turn their luck around with reigning coach of the year, Dwane Casey.
According to a source, Casey, former Toronto Raptors coach, will be the 36th head coach in franchise history. It was also reported on ESPN that the Pistons will hire Casey on a five-year deal and the worth of the contract hasn’t been revealed yet.
Everything fell into place for the team when a lengthy process finally ended and the owner, Tom Gores, fired Stan Van Gundy, president and coach. Dwane Casey was also let go from the Raptors four days later, despite leading the team 59-23. The Pistons’ new coach plans to meet the players in Los Angeles immediately.
The ex-Raptors coach’s departure left a mark on NBA players who expressed their concern on social media, as Casey is known for having strong relationships with players.
When the coaching search was on to replace Van Gundy, Casey was the best candidate for the job, surpassing Michigan coach John Beilein and even San Antonio Spurs assistant, Udoka.
A new coach calls for new changes for the Detroit Pistons. Can Dwane Casey take the team to the playoffs next season? 57% of people think that it’s possible now, while 43% are sure there won’t be a chance of that. Read more about the story on USA Today here.
